Quite often, during lull's in the fishing, we'll get asked, "So why do you guys go by the name Times Two?"
Well, way back in 1986 when I started Great Lakes fishing, I owned an 18' Starcraft with my brother that my father dubbed "Lone Ranger", partly due to the fact
that if I could not find anyone to go fishing with me, I'd simply just go alone.
In 1990, I decided to
move up to a 19' Sea Nymph, to lose the name "Lone Ranger" and to try to come up with something a bit different.
I thought about a spin
on "Lone Ranger", by
changing that to "Lake
Ranger", and names
like "Reel Fun" or "Reel
Escape", but then I'd
see a boat with that
name, or hear one on
the radio, and I didn't
want to be the same as
someone else. Then
there were names
people used that were
takeoffs on their jobs,
like "House Call"
or "Liquid Plumber".
So I started thinking,
this boat will be for fun
and fishing (two), and
my main job is working
with the finances of a
local school district, so
that made me think
math or multiplication
(times); plus it was my
second boat (again two)
and that evolved
into "Times Two"!
My father passed away
in 1997, and I thought
pretty seriously about
changing over to the
name he used "Black
Jack", but by then a lot
of people knew me by
Times Two, so I decided
to keep it.....
And here we are, two boats later, and we're still fishing and still having fun!!
